Brooklyn-based independent PR company Backspin Promotions was established in December 1999 following two years of operation as Backspin Media. The name "Backspin" came from the idea of the rewind popular w/ Drum n Bass DJs at the time the company started - the concept being that Backspin would represent music people would want to "rewind" – i.e., listen to more than once.
The aim of this unique and bespoke PR company from its inception has been to promote independent artists, independent music labels and creative projects. Over the course of the last 18+ years Backspin Promotions have helped both new and established artists reach a wider audience. Our projects have ranged from work on major festivals including Unsound Festival New York to promoting an incredibly diverse range of music. Our primary focus has often been on electronic music – Ambient, Bass, Drum n Bass, Dubstep, Footwork, House, Techno –though we have also regularly promoted other forms including Modern Classical, Experimental, Hip Hop, Jazz, Noise, Pop, Sound Art, Soul and World Music.
